"Sheathed In Ice" (GIVEAWAY)

Don't forget my Jose Eber 1" flatiron GIVEAWAY...

Well, here I was posting about surprising  fall weather a couple days back...only to be posting about a return to winter normalcy today.  I guess Minnesota has seen the last of it's last gasp of autumn warmth!  Which is okay by me, because I'm that girl who likes to layer on lots of cozy clothes, curl up with good stories, and imbibe festive drinks.  I couldn't be happier that winter is finally here (please don't kill me!).  In honor of the occasion...here are a couple of my favourite cold-weather outfits from my first couple months of blogging last winter :)

As far as winter outfits are concerned, however, I'm not looking forward to recess.  That might sound like a non sequitur...but I have to bring my kids out for a 30 minute recess in the afternoon every day, which means bundling up in snow pants, boots, mittens, scarf, hat, the works.  And let me tell you, that doesn't do wonders for your hair or clothing!  I'm already sick of crumpled skirts...and MORE sick of the terrible hat head where my hair looks like it's been ironed onto the contours of my scalp.

On a more positive note, I really reallllllllly like the fact that I can now bring a thermos of some delicious hot drink with me to the school every morning!  In just the past three days of this week, I've enjoyed black coffee, an eggnog latte, and some steaming and spicy Constant Comment.  Any other Bigelow fans out there?!  I absolutely love every one of their teas!

As far as books are concerned...I need some good reading suggestions.  I've been on a mystery novel kick lately, but I'm a super snob as far as books are concerned, so I only really like well-written, classic mysteries.  Think Christie, Sayers, Poe.  Since I've read every book those three geniuses ever penned--and most of them more than once--I'm not sure where to head next???  Maybe I'll just have to relinquish good mystery novels and return to reading regular classic British lit :)

  5. well, if we had winters like that here in Estonia then I would be a possible fan of winter too. but no, we have to wear thousands of layers when we experience the proper winter. and there is snow EVERYWHERE. anyway, your winter ensembles look like my spring ensembles, hehe. damn those temperatures! :D

  7. Keep me updated about what books you end up getting hooked on!

You look adorable in all these looks, but hey, as long as you have a thermos of tea or egg nog, I say you'll be looking amazing all season long! (at least, my thermos is my go to accessory of winter!)

  14. I'm a huge fan of modern British writer Elizabeth Jane Howard. If you can find her Cazalet Chronicles online (Amazon?), I think you will fall in love. There are four books in the series, about a wealthy British family during WWII. Think Downton Abbey in the future times ten! I love re-reading them at Christmas and the characters feel like family.

  17. The cold is hardly fun when there is no snow. Here's hoping for some!

I remember the days of recess and snowpants...I can see where that would be no fun from a teacher's perspective...

Also, if you're looking for a good book to read, and a festive one at that, The Christmas Carol! It's a classic and everyone knows the story, but it's magnificent. I read it every year.

    p.s. hat hair...ugh.

  19. The editor in chief at my job left a copy of Gone Girl on the free table at work. So I am reading that. I am enjoying it so far. But be warned it is a dark story.

  24. oh hat head. I am glad that there are times that i actually prefer having had head because my bleached/dyed hair acts all weird when there's extra moisture in the air, and hat head hair looks so much better than its "normal" state.
